Almost perfect start to the year

BMCRC MRO Superteens 3rd-5th March.

Coming into the first round of the year the team and I was very positive and after successful pre-season testing we believed I could run at the front and be competitive.

FRIDAY

Friday didn't exactly go to plan after running in our new engine in the first one and a half sessions I decided to begin to push the new bike and get some good laps in. Unfortunately on the second flying lap I tucked the front on a cold tyre going in to Graham Hill, a downhill lefthander. After some hard work through mid-day we managed to get some good track time in and set some competitive lap time for the end of the day, this gave us good confidence that we had the set-up and I could be competitive come race day.

SATURAY

Saturday was better than I could have wished for. I set the fastest time in qualifying and was on pole by 7 tenths of a second. Race one was one of the closest races ever, after a good start I led the race until the penultimate lap where I was passed by MRO favourate Jordan Gilbert, I quckly re-passed him and won the race by 0.012 of a second, It was a very exciting race and an amazing way to start the season. Race two became much harder work I led the first lap but Gilbert pushed passed on lap two. From then-on it was one of the hardest nd best races I have ever ridden, with over 4-5 passes a lap. I led on to the last lap but was passed by Jordan in to turn two (Druids Hairpin) I was desperate to re-pass him and on the back stright we collided, going ito the last corner I was still in second however I got good drive out of the last coner and passed him to the line.To win race two was amazing and a great feeling.

SUNDAY

Race 3 I got a good start and pulled away at the front, I set the fastest lap and won the race by a comfortable margin. Race 4 was the final and unfortunately the most disappointing race of the weekend it was yet again a great battle as it came to the last lap I was in second and got badly held up by a backmarker and just missed out on the victory.

Overall it was a very successful start to the year was definatly up to expectations and gives us good momentum and confidence going into the first Aprilia Superteen round at Mallory Park.
